Teak Wall Divider (2018)
We ripped out the old kitchen and the plan was to turn the space into an office for Melissa by adding a new wall separating it from the hallway. The wall was going to incorporate a mid-century inspired shelf to make the wall less imposing and to add a timeless feel to the renovation. After sketching up 12 different designs, we agreed on a pretty simple 3 tier layout that I built using plantation Teak.
We nailed the 2x6's together for the wall using Melissa's dad's pneumatic framing nailer and the nails he left in his garage when he died. It felt weird gutting a house that had been in her family for 2 generations, but if there were ghosts we knew they would approve.
I had purchased a large amount of teak from my wood supplier because the price was amazing, and this was the first project I was finally going to use it for. All sections of the wall divider consist of a wide middle portion, flanked by 2 narrower laminated portions. The smaller portions extend as vertical supports and are secured using screws hidden by matched teak plugs.
