Transit Photograph (2012)
I couldn't believe what I was seeing the first time I went into Bernie's basement. He was obsessed with public transportation and the place was filled with pieces of buses, maps of train lines and boxes upon boxes of negatives, slides and photographs.
I was there to learn more about Canada's first electric streetcar system, but ended up leaving with a stack of borrowed film negatives from the archive Bernie inherited from the local transit authority. In my darkroom, I made several 16x20 prints doing my best to preserve as much original detail as possible. For my favourite, a picture from the 1940's depicting a Windsor transit bus at the corner of Wyandotte and Ouellette, I made a frame to match the proportions of the photograp using solid black walnut and had a local framing shop cut the matboard and glass.
