The Cross Canada Project - 20050530 - Bike Blog

The Cross Canada Project - 20060111 - First Attempt
When I got home from the trip, I started editing the footage into a movie. I finished about 20 minutes of it before I stopped because it wasn't turning out the way I wanted. This is that aborted attempt at editing movie, although I could only find the last 5 minutes in low-resolution. January 11, 2006. (20:41)

Editing the movie
Post-It Notes: On my bedroom wall to finally work out how the opening sequence was going to go.
Graphics Rendering: Rendering the map of Canada stuff in Adobe After Effects for the intro. My little 1.4GHZ laptop did not like this.
Map of Canada Comparison: Comparing my first version of the Canada Map stuff with the final version. The first version was hand-drawn in Illustrator, and the final version used a 100 MP satellite image from NASA that I had to use Photoshop to change the projection on.
Improvised Microphone Stand: One of the many things I have back in Canada that I don't have here in New Zealand is a microphone stand. This did the trick though for voice-overs and the commentary track.
Editing Workflow: Here's a screenshot of Sony Vegas with the final movie finished.
DVD Test #1: Finally testing the first draft of the DVD on the shitty TV someone gave to me and the DVD player I found in the garbage. This was a big deal for me..
Recording the music
Recording in Basement: My parent's basement in Canada, where I recorded almost all the music.
Recording Drums: I believe I used 4 microphones to record the drums. That's the most I've ever used, and probably most I'd ever bother to use.
Recording Bass: Using my friend Dave's $100 bass guitar directly into my interface. I love playing bass and I don't do it nearly enough.
Inside Tent Setup: A picture of the the camera in the tent, using the helmet as a tripod. On top of the camera is a little video light I made using a cheap LED headlamp.
Saskatchewan shot: Setting up the shot of the Saskatchewan sign from 27:35.
